Pump
It Up!
by Leon Shepherd

Do
you need some inspiration? Motivation? Have you ever had one
of those days when nothing seems to go right? If so, just think
of the word pump, as in 'PUMP IT UP!'
The word pump has several powerful meanings. And
to get the full benefit, you have to break down each letter
of this powerful word.
The first P stands for positive. To
achieve anything in life you must develop and maintain a positive
attitude. One of the best ways to maintain a positive attitude
is to associate with only positive people. Positive people will
raise your spirits, uplift you and encourage you. Negative people
will only discourage you and tell you that you can't accomplish
your goals. Hanging around negative people is like eating junk
food. They provide no nutritional value. Associating with positive
people is healthy and beneficial in helping you maintain a positive
attitude.
The U stands for up. Whenever
things are going the way you had planned, or you feel that you're
at your lowest point, just say to yourself,"I might be down,
but there's only one way from here, and that way is up!"
The M stands for motion.
Emotion, or the way you feel, is created by motion. So, whenever
you are feeling sad, discouraged or unhappy, immediately get
your body in motion. Whether it's, dancing, exercising or participating
in some physical activity, get your body moving. When our bodies
are in motion, our unhappy feelings dissipate. We become motivated
and energized!
The last P stands for perseverance.
Perseverance is characteristic of all successful
people. Whenever you read or hear about someone who has succeeded,
one of the first things that they will tell you is that they
didn't give up. They continued their course of action, in spite
of difficulty and opposition. When it comes to your happiness
and achieving your goals, always persevere. And remember, when
you need a quick picker-upper, think of the word pump, and 'PUMP
IT UP!'

How to Stand Out - And Succeed Today
by Al Ries

You're applying
for a new job or shooting for a promotion. Four helpful strategies...
1. Focus on the person you are trying to impress. Most
people think hard work is the key to success. That is rarely enough.
Unless you stand out in your employer's mind, you are just one of
many competent workers. Figure out what the employer is looking for.
What is he/she likely to notice? Distinguish yourself from others.
2. Emphasize your specialness. Do you have something the
employer wants? Play it up. Or highlight something he might not have
thought of and isn't obviously looking for.
3. Market your successes. Select an accomplishment, and
play it up. Or give yourself a label to help others zero in on your
strengths.
4. Hook up with a winner. Even a mediocre jockey can win
a race if he/she rides a good horse. The same is true for career climbers.
If your company isn't a winner, you are probably not going to go very
far no matter how good you are. Hook up with a winning company - and
a boss who is on the fast track. If your boss goes places, you will
probably go along.
'''Eighty percent of the people could care less about your problems,
and the other twenty percent are glad that you have them.'' - Jackie
"Moms" Mabley, Comedienne
"Our aim should be service, not success." - Barbara Smith, Restaurateur
"I tell Michael, 'Let them know what your priorities are: God, family,
doing right, respect.' These are the things that are important in
life." - Deloris Jordan, Mother of Michael Jordan
"Thoughts have power; thoughts have energy. And you can make your
world or break it by your own thinking." - Susan Taylor, Editor-in-chief,
Essence Magazine
"The door tonight has been opened." - Halle Berry, Academy Award Winning
Actress
"Do not judge, and you will not be judged; do not condemn, and you
will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven.'' - Luke
6:37
"We know that all things work together for good for those who love
God." - Romans 8:28

The SuperMarket (humor)

A
young man was walking through a supermarket to pick up a few things
when he noticed an old lady following him around. Thinking nothing
of it, he ignored her and continued on. Finally he went to the check
out line, but she got in front of him.
"Pardon me," she said, "I'm sorry if my staring at you has made
you feel uncomfortable. It's just that you look just like my son.
Who I haven't seen in a long time."
"That's a shame," replied the young man, "Is there anything that
I can do for you?"
"Yes," she said," As I'm leaving, can you say, 'Good by Mother!'?
"It would make me feel so much better."
"Sure," answered the young man. So, when the old woman was leaving,
he called out, "Good by, Mother!"
As he stepped up to the check-out counter, he saw that his total
was $127.50.
"How can that be," he asked. "I only purchased a few things!"
The clerk replied, "Your mother said that you would pay for her."

Procrastination adds stress.
To get things done, write down the benefits of completing a task...break
it into smaller parts...make appointments with yourself to accomplish
specific tasks...keep those appointments - accomplish what you promise
yourself you will...reward yourself when the task is finished.
Roz Turner, motivational consultant
It is OK to E-mail a condolence note if the bereaved person is
an E-mail user. However, this should be in addition to a handwritten
note.

Forgiveness is good for you... Holding on to feelings of betrayal
tends to keep blood pressure high - inviting heart disease, stroke
or other health problems. Forgiving someone reduces blood pressure.

You should never clean your ears with cotton swabs. This pushes
the wax further into your ear and can cause blockage and infection.

Your sleeping position with your partner says a lot about your
relationship. It reflects feelings of closeness, safety, trust,
distance or indifference.
Examples:
Spooning, when one partner snuggles behind the other, shows positive
emotional interdependence, especially if you sometimes reverse positions.
Leg Hug, with partners touching legs, acknowledges the relationship
but shows a fair amount of independence. Cliffhanger, when people
lie in near-fetal positions at opposite sides of the bed, can indicate
relationship trouble.

Snoring can be eliminated by a dentist. Snoring and sleep apnea
- is caused by blockage of the airway from the nose to the lungs.
A specially fitted, two-part dental appliance worn at night opens
the airway by moving the lower jaw forward. Available for about
$750, it is less expensive than face mask models that blow a stream
of air into the nose.
